Dobyns-Bennett staged a third-quarter rally to get within striking distance of Jefferson County, but the Lady Patriots kept their focus and ousted the Lady Indians from the Region 1-AAA tournament with a 49-35 win Friday night.

The Elizabethton and Sullivan South boys played a thriller in the District 1-AA tournament for a second straight year. This time, the host Cyclones got the best of the Rebels in a 72-63 double-overtime victory Saturday night.

Ashton King drove in four runs, Ethan Cady drove in three and Jake Lyle added a monster three-run shot over left field in ETSU's 10-3 victory over Northern Kentucky on Saturday at Thomas Stadium.

Dobyns-Bennett had five champions emerge from the Region 1-AAA individual wrestling championships — and six state qualifiers overall — while Volunteer will send two grapplers to the state tournament.

It seemed unlikely that the Daniel Boone boys could go scoreless in the first quarter of their District 1-AAA game at Cherokee yet still win by nine. Maybe just as unlikely was the scenario that Boone's girls, who had won just once, would prevail by double digits.

Meadowview Gymnastics Academy has two girls currently atop the national rankings and the Kingsport team, coached by Kristin Lemons and Keegan Stallard, is the top-ranked gym in the XS and XG divisions.
