During Tuesday's Reward School ceremony CVES students honored Dr. Bailey with a Pilgrim themed presentation, and then presented her with a check made out to Dolly Parton's Imagination Library in her honor for $455.38.

Donation helps rural Hawkins school fight student hunger

A newly enrolled McPheeters Bend Elementary student whose family was on the verge of homelessness took home three backpacks of food Tuesday thanks to school food pantry contributions from the community and businesses like Food Lion.

During a workshop Monday the Hawkins County Board of Education discussed the possibility of buildign a new school to serve both Keplar and McPheeters Bend elementary schools, which are two of the smallest, oldest, and most rural school facilities in the county. The middle school would likely be built in the Goshen Valley community.

McPheeters Bend seeks donations to stock food pantry for upcoming school year

Local resident Shelia Lumpkins has agreed to host several donation drop-offs at the school, to give the community a chance to help stock the school's food pantry before the first day of classes. After Thursday, other donation drop off dates include July 16, 19, 23, 26, 30 and August 2 - all from 6-8 p.m.

Intruder at Hawkins school pleads guilty

A Hawkins County man who told a school resource officer last week that his shirt was stolen, only to realize it was in his hand, pleaded guilty Monday in Sessions Court to public intoxication and criminal trespass.
