Winterfest’s 15 million lights line more than 25 miles of roadways leading to and through Sevierville, Pigeon Forge, and Gatlinburg from Interstate 40’s Exit 407
The revamped Guinness World Records Adventure, featuring interactive displays that pit visitors against each other as well as current title holders, officially opened Tuesday in Gatlinburg as the city continues recovery from wildfires.
With flames dripping from tree branches and the air filled with embers, thousands of people raced through a hellish landscape as they fled wildfires that killed three people and destroyed hundreds of homes and a resort in the Great Smoky Mountains.
“There was stuff all over road, fire and embers everywhere when we got up there. It was wet and rough and hard to see where we were going. (The police) got us through and we went up and into Gatlinburg. It was burning everywhere we could see.” — Kingsport Fire Department Chief Craig Dye.
