Students from age 4 through 12th grade played in the tournament, and each player competed as an individual and as part of a team for his or her school or church.
The Tri-Cities Christian School chess team competed against 5,577 students in the largest chess tournament in the world. Students from all 50 states played in the United States Chess Federation Supernational Scholastic Tournament held at the Opryland Gaylord Hotel.
The tournament consisted of four games over a four-hour time span. Trophies were set out for first through fifth place in primary elementary, elementary, middle and high school grades.
