Hawkins school director recommends approval of both school logo finalists

The winner was supposed to be selected at Thursday’s BOE meeting, but three members were unable to attend, so the winning logo design vote was postponed until the November meeting.

The economy of art in Kingsport

KINGSPORT — Most people probably don’t think about the economic impact the arts have on a community. Now, with the publication of a recent national survey, local art supporters are hoping to bring this point to light.

Kingsport looking at murals to help beautify city

Several colorful pieces of art can be found on the sides of buildings near Pal’s, across the street from the library and near the Academic Village. Now, with the help of a $6,000 grant from the Tennessee Arts Commission, Kingsport officials are hoping to add some more color to downtown and elsewhere within the city.

New study aims to explore the economic impact of the arts

Kingsport will coordinate with a national non-profit arts advocacy organization to conduct an economic prosperity study in Sullivan and Hawkins counties. The study will involve 800 surveys of local arts and culture organizations to help determine the economic impact they have on the community.
