NORTON — The Best Friend Festival’s downtown events opened under sunny and warm weather Tuesday as kids and kids at heart put their artistic talent on cans for the traditional Paint-a-Trash Can event. The resulting handiwork, sponsored by Norton Parks and Recreation, Keep Wise County Beautiful, and Vic’s Decorating, will help festivalgoers keep the city clean through the weeklong event.

The new Expo Center and Farmer’s Market got a sunny welcome too as people came to buy baked goods, produce, cheese, and crafts. Jeep enthusiasts also dominated downtown Park Avenue for the Jeep Cruise-In.

The rest of Best Friend Festival week includes:

• Wednesday: Senior Citizens Day at the Expo Center, with free lunch for seniors, bingo, and a plant giveaway. Gospel Concert at 6:30 featuring NevertHEless. Movie Night at 8:45 with the animated “The Missing Link.”
