KINGSPORT – Two units at Country Shores Apartments in Cooks Valley were destroyed by a fire on Monday.

The Kingsport Fire Department responded to the apartment complex at about 8 a.m. Monday to find two units fully engulfed. Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze, which claimed the life of one pet. A second pet was rescued by firefighters, according to Barry Brickey, public education officer for the KFD.

No other injuries were reported and both units were a total loss. Workers were at the complex Wednesday morning, boarding up the windows and placing a tarp over the damaged parts of the roof.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the fire marshal's office, Brickey said.
