Official statement regarding the finish of the Street Stock feature

KINGSPORT, Tenn. (March 26, 2016) – "On the final lap of Saturday's Street Stock feature, the No. 6 of Chris Tunnell and No. 19 of John Harrell made contact, sending the No. 19 into the outside retaining wall in turn two. As the No. 6 (leader) entered turn three, the call was made from Race Control to display the caution due to the hard contact by the No. 19 forcing him to stop on an active racetrack. With this being the final lap and the caution being displayed, the race was over and official. As outlined in Section 4 and Section 5 of the Kingsport Speedway rules, once the leader has taken the white flag and the caution is displayed, the race is over, the field is frozen, and cars will be scored based upon their respective track position at the time of the caution with the car(s) that caused the caution placed at the rear of the field or the last car(s) on the lead lap if they are a lead lap car. If the caution is displayed, cars are to slow down, remain in line, and not pass. Therefore, being in the lead when the caution was displayed, the No. 6 was the winner. The rules referenced in this statement are below."

4-12 Official Completion

A. All Races will be run until the leader has completed the required Race distance, which means the advertised distance, except as described in subsection 9-14C & D of the NASCAR Rule Book. A Race will not be considered officially completed of the leader has not completed the halfway distance.

B. Once the leader receives the white flag at the start/finish line and the yellow flag is displayed and/or the caution lights illuminated (yellow), the Race will not be restarted.

5-7 White Flag

A. The white flag signifies that the leader has started his/her first lap. When the yellow flag is displayed and/or the caution lights are illuminated (yellow) during the white flag lap, cars will be scored based on their respective track position. NO PASSING WILL BE PERMITTED as long as the car(s) maintain a reasonable speed considering the conditions that exist on the track. The determination of respective track position and reasonable speed are judgment calls that will be made by Track Officials.
