MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — A former Memphis police officer has been convicted of second-degree murder for shooting his girlfriend two years ago.A jury Friday deliberated just over an hour before convicting 39-year-old Chancy Jones. He had testified that he shot Phyllis Malone at a gas station near Interstate 40 because he thought she was going to run over him with her car.Jones, who was fired after the incident, faces up to 25 years in prison when he is sentenced by Judge W. Mark Ward on Aug. 13.According to The Commercial Appeal, Jones had told police he shot Malone after she told him she was pregnant and was threatening to tell his wife about their affair if he did not give her money.
