Homes for Heroes

A group of area businesses kicked off the “Homes for Heroes” program on Wednesday, March 17, by providing lunch for the area COVID unit heroes at Johnson City, Holston Valley and Bristol Regional medical centers.
The unique program provides discounts for health care workers, EMS, law enforcement, firefighters, teachers and military personnel. The first step for anyone thinking of buying a home who qualifies for this programs is to contact Wanda Hall at Fairway Mortgage to help get the ball rolling.

New Vision Youth Group celebrated Black History Month at Virginia High School in Bristol, focusing on the four As in education. The four As are: achievement, attendance, attitude and appreciation.

Children’s Dental Health Month

February was Children’s Dental Health Month, and this year marked the 80th annual celebration.
To mark the occasion, Mountain Empire Community College’s Dental Assisting students made treat bags for Duffield Primary School. Each student in kindergarten and pre-K took home a packet with a toothbrush, paste, a coloring booklet, an educational pamphlet for parents, and other prizes. Principal Christy Miller (left, from left) and Assistant Principal Whitney Berry received the items on behalf of the students. MECC students and staff who participated (right) included (front row, from left) students Taylor Perry, Cheyenne Burke, Bieann Lomax, Hannah Garrett, (middle row, from left) Marissa Hardin, Caleigh Fletcher, Ashley McGraw, Shellby Rose and program director (back row) Emily Kate Bowen.
