COVID-19 in Northeast Tennessee, daily report Sept. 16, 2020

The Tennessee Department of Health reported 1,856 new COVID-19 cases and 24 new deaths from the disease caused by the novel coronavirus Wednesday.

From the department’s daily COVID-19 report:

• New/total cases, statewide: 1,856/177,087.

• New/total cases, Northeast Tennessee: 89/7,853.

• New/total deaths, statewide: 24/2,151.

• New/total deaths, Northeast Tennessee: one/135.

• Washington County’s numbers: 28 new cases and one new death; 2,053 total cases; 27 deaths, total; 215 active cases (up from 210 Tuesday).

• Sullivan County’s numbers: 17 new cases; 1,980 total cases; 31 deaths, total; 147 active cases (down from 150 Tuesday).

• Carter County’s numbers: 13 new cases; 1,080 total cases; 26 deaths, total; 92 active cases (no change since Tuesday).

• Hawkins County’s numbers: 11 new cases; 729 total cases; 14 deaths, total; 33 active cases (up from 24 Tuesday).

• Greene County’s numbers: eight new cases; 1,026 total cases; 32 deaths, total; 79 active cases (down from 84 Tuesday).

• Johnson County’s numbers: eight new cases; 618 total cases; two deaths, total; 173 active cases (no change since Tuesday).

• Unicoi County’s numbers: four new cases; 262 total cases; one death, total; 24 active cases (up from 23 Tuesday).

• Hancock County’s numbers: no new cases; 105 total cases; two deaths, total; six active cases (no change since Tuesday).

• The state’s daily report was based on results from 27,632 new tests since Tuesday’s report, with a daily positive rate of 8.21%.

The largest increases in new cases by age group were: 338 in the 11- to 20-year-old range; 299 in the 21- to 30-year-old range; 282 in the 51- to 60-year-old range; 258 in the 31- to 40-year-old range; and 196 in the 61- to 70-year-old range.
