Mount Carmel hosts ribbon cutting for new playground equipment

Stillwell also announced that the playground section featuring the harmony flowers would be named after Quinnlee Mae Shriner, a 1-year-old Mount Carmel resident who passed away due to a rare condition called SMARD (spinal muscular atrophy with respiratory distress).

Quinnlee’s parents, Scott Shriner and Diamond Bowery, were present at the event and also thanked everyone in attendance.

The new playground equipment is outdoor-themed and features several climbing walls, slides, imaginative play features, rockers and swings. A soft turf also surrounds the entire area to protect children while playing.

Alderman John Gibson said the equipment is great for the kids of Mount Carmel.

The playground has equipment geared to kids of all ages and even features handicapped-accessible equipment so all children can enjoy it.
