GATE CITY — Several Scott County families were on hand to celebrate National Adoption Day in Gate City on Friday afternoon.
Vehicles decorated with signs and balloons participated in a parade through downtown to celebrate the children who have been adopted this year in the county.
During the event, organized by the Scott County Department of Social Services, the community was encouraged to line the streets and cheer on the children and families.
Eighteen children have been adopted in 2020 through the foster care system in Scott County, and seven of those adoptions were finalized on Friday.
"It is so important to emphasize that so many wonderful people work hard to make a difference in the lives of so many beautiful and deserving children," said Emily Ashley, family services specialist.
"We would like to say a special thank you to all the adoptive families who have welcomed children with open arms. If anyone would like to consider fostering or adopting, we would love for them to reach out to their local Department of Social Services for more information."
