The Holston Eagles boys' basketball team defeated South Middle School on Saturday in the Class AA consolation game of the first-ever TMSAA State Middle School Basketball Tournament to earn a third-place finish. The win was No. 32 on the season - a school record for wins - for the Eagles, who finished 32-3 overall.
Holston won its sectional title with a 39-27 win over Mosheim to advance to the Final 4 at Stewarts Creek Middle School in Smyrna. In Friday's semifinal contest, Crestview defeated Holston 46-38. The Eagles rebounded with a 37-35 win in Saturday's consolation game to earn the third-place trophy. Joltin Harrison and Dawson Arnold led the way with 14 points each. Parker Leming added 6 and Roy Moody 3 for Holston.
Holston's team includes Luke Jenkins, Carson Tate, Joltin Harrison, Bryson Horne, Parker Leming, Cale Bryant, Micah Turner, Houston Sherfey, Roy Moody, Adam Hunt and Dawson Arnold.
Bellevue Middle School defeated Crestview 58-43 in the championship to claim the inaugural Class AA boys' title.
In Class A girls' action, Cloudland Middle School reached the title game with a 24-19 win over South Lawrence before dropping an overtime battle to Harriman in the title game, 34-29. In Class A boys' action, Hampton Elementary also advanced to the title game with a 47-37 semifinal win over Smith County but lost to Lester Prep 57-27 in Saturday's championship.
