The 17th annual Broad Street Cruise-in car show, sponsored by the Fraternal Order of Police and the Downtown Kingsport Association, drew hundreds of spectators to Main Street and Broad Street on Saturday. The event is meant to evoke the heyday of "cruising," which for many young people dominated the local social scene from the late 1940s to the early 1980s, The event has grown substantially since it was first started and held in the relatively small parking lot behind the Kingsport Public Library. Now it typically attracts 350 cars of all makes, models and conditions - and includes a wagon pedal car category. Funds raised at the event are used by the FOP to support children’s charities.
