BLOUNTVILLE — The Sullivan County Board of Education will meet in a work session 5 p.m. Monday, July 9, and then in regular session at 6:30 p.m. that day. Agenda items includes the board evaluation of the director of schools and consideration of an offer to purchase the former Weaver Elementary School for a bread bakery location.
A proposal for random drug testing of students, presented by board member Mark Ireson, is not be on the agenda as originally planned.
The board on Thursday, July 12, will meet in a called work session starting at 4:30 p.m. to be followed by a called meeting. The purpose of that meeting is to consider the construction bids on West Ridge High School and the 2018-19 general purpose school budget proposal. The low bid came in July 5 just short of $61 million including all alternatives. No pool was in the bid packet but has been estimated to cost about $5 million.
Both meetings will be in the first-floor board room of the health and education building, 154 Blountville Bypass. The called meeting will have no public comment, BOE Chairman Michael Hughes said of the boad’s general policy for called meetings. Public comments at the Monday meeting will be allowed near the start of the meeting if they pertain to agenda items and at the end of the meeting if they do not.
