The couple, evacuees from Charleston, S.C., due to mandatory evacuation of the South Carolina coast ahead of Hurricane Florence, were married Friday in the gardens of the historic Old Deery Inn in Blountville, Tenn., with Sullivan County Commissioner John Gardner officiating the double-ring ceremony.

They didn’t know anything about the historic inn, but when they saw a sign out front with the phrase “Refuge from the Storm,” they thought “it’s perfect!”

New venue in Scott County gives brides a riverfront wedding

Homestead on the Holston was started in July 2016 with Burkett working toward hosting events in the spring. The biggest expense was putting a caterer's kitchen in her basement. The first wedding took place at the homestead on June 10. Burkett said it went very well.
