Lady Blue Devils sweep to district win against 'Pack

CLINTWOOD — The Gate City volleyball team went on the road Thursday and returned home with a Mountain 7 District sweep of Ridgeview, claiming a 25-20, 27-25, 25-22 victory.

Bel Sallee knocked down 12 kills, Kaley Jenkins had 33 assists with nine digs and Aubrie Penley had nine kills and 15 digs for the Lady Blue Devils.

Haley Mullins had 11 kills, Brooke Frazier totaled five kills, 30 digs and three aces, and Lorin Phipps came up with 20 digs for the Lady Wolfpack.

Alyssa Price had 16 assists and Kassidy Rasnick amassed nine assists and eight digs for Ridgeview.

JOHN BATTLE 3, LEE HIGH 0

BRISTOL, Va. — Bethany Smith recorded 18 digs and Keelie Pippin came through with 22 assists to lead the Lady Trojans to the Mountain 7 victory.

Battle powered its way to a 25-14, 25-14, 25-10 win over the Lady Generals.

Emma Harmon chipped in eight assists for John Battle.

THOMAS WALKER 3, TWIN SPRINGS 0

NICKELSVILLE — Bella Schwartz had 16 assists and seven digs and the Lady Pioneers went on the road to beat the Lady Titans in Cumberland District action.

Thomas Walker won 25-19, 25-14, 25-17.

Savannah Hall piled up 19 digs and Talyn Dibrell had 10 kills for Thomas Walker. Autumn Collingsworth added five kills and six digs, Lakin Burke four kills and five blocks and Madison Mayes five kills and nine digs.

Ryleigh Gillenwater had 16 assists and 11 kills, and Chloe Gilmer tallied 18 assists and eight kills for Twin Springs. Emma Dingus knocked down 10 kills.

RYE COVE 3, CASTLEWOOD 0

CLINCHPORT — Emily Bishop had 21 assists and nine digs, helping boost the Lady Eagles to the Cumberland District victory at home, 25-16, 25-16, 25-22.

Eva Roach had a double-double of 10 service points and 12 digs, and Kaleigh Sloan chipped in with eight kills and 11 digs for Rye Cove.

EASTSIDE 3, J.I. BURTON 0

COEBURN — Tinley Hamilton had 13 assists, Kaylee Yates had seven kills and four aces and the Lady Spartans posted a 25-11, 25-16, 25-16 Cumberland win over the visiting Lady Raiders.

Leci Sensabaugh had five kills for Eastside.

Akyssa Hollinger had four kills and six digs and Bailey Sturgill recorded six assists, six digs and two aces for J.I. Burton.

PATRICK HENRY 3, JOHNSON COUNTY 0

MOUNTAIN CITY — Logan Newberry had 23 assists, five digs and two aces, Ella Maiden had 16 kills and five blocks and the Lady Rebels took down the Lady Longhorns in a three-set interstate victory.

Patrick Henry won 25-17, 25-12, 25-15.

Hannah Holmes had eight digs and two aces, and Abigail Belcher had five kills and five blocks for the visitors.

SULLIVAN CENTRAL 3, CHUCKEY-DOAK 0

BLOUNTVILLE — Laiken Hoback had 14 assists, Elaina Vaughan had nine kills and four aces and the Lady Cougars swept to the nonconference win over the visiting Black Knights, 25-15, 25-8, 25-17.

Haley Wilson had eight assists for Sullivan Central. Lexie Cyr and Taylor Wilson tallied three kills apiece.

SCIENCE HILL 3, DAVID CROCKETT 0

JONESBOROUGH — Behind 10 kills from Loren Grindstaff, who boasted a .588 hitting percentage, the Lady Hilltoppers pinned a District 1-AAA sweep on the Lady Pioneers.

Science Hill prevailed 25-13, 25-13, 25-13.

Claire Thomas contributed nine kills and Sara Whynot seven for the Lady Hilltoppers, who got four Riley Layton service aces.

Jesse Franks totaled 21 assists, Alyssa Neal accumulated 11 and Layton and Kenzie Clark totaled 13 digs apiece. Neal chipped in seven digs.
