Council wins slugfest with Twin Springs

COUNCIL — The volleyball teams of Twin Springs and Council sparred over five sets on Monday before the Lady Cobras emerged with a 25-23, 22-25, 16-24, 25-14, 17-15 victory.

Chloe Lane was a power for Twin Springs, compiling 28 kills, 29 digs, five aces and six service points. Ryleigh Gillenwater was everywhere and finished with 18 kills, 27 assists, five digs, eight aces and 12 service points. Emma Dingus contributed 28 kills, Chloe Gilmer piled up 36 assists to go with three aces and two digs, Alyssa McCracken covered the court for 40 digs, adding 10 service points with three aces, Kaitlyn Wallace had 13 kills and three digs, and Hannah Fields totaled 19 digs with 10 service points, three of them aces.

Abby Stevens led Council with six kills and four blocks. Lakota Helton had 11 assists and 10 service points, and Alli Austin recorded 18 service points.

WISE CENTRAL 3, RYE COVE 0

NORTON — The Lady Eagles put up a fight in the middle set, but the Lady Warriors held them off to complete the sweep.

Olivia Sanders had 11 kills, Charlie Long added eight, and Bayleigh Allison and Gabby Hall had seven apiece for Central, which won 25-15, 27-25, 25-11.

Hannah McAmis totaled 24 digs, Caitlin Glover had 28 assists, Rylee Duncan counted four aces among her 17 service points and Isabella Sturgill recorded 14 service points.

Rye Cove spread the wealth. Brooke Robinson had seven service points, two aces, five kills and two digs; Emily Bishop tallied seven digs, six assists, three service points and a kill; Kaleigh Sloan recorded seven service points, three kills, two assists and three digs; Rileigh Parsons was good for two kills, two blocks and two digs; Mattison Horton added five assists and five digs; Eva Roach had five service points and three digs; and Laken Sharpe had six digs and two kills.

LEBANON 3, CASTLEWOOD 0

CASTLEWOOD — The Lady Pioneers rolled by the Lady Blue Devils 25-12, 25-9, 25-21.

Kara Long knocked down 11 kills, Jaylee Stanley had 22 assists, Averie Price notched eight kills and three aces, and Haley Finley popped up 11 digs for Lebanon.

Brooke Travers tallied five kills and an ace and Janakay Kiser had two aces and two kills for Castlewood.

RIDGEVIEW 3, J.I. BURTON 0

CLINTWOOD — The Lady Wolfpack stepped out of Mountain 7 District play and pinned a sweep on the Lady Raiders, 25-12, 25-19, 25-10.

Akyssa Hollinger with five kills and Bailey Sturgill with seven assists were tops for J.I. Burton.

VIRGINIA HIGH 3, SULLIVAN EAST 0

BRISTOL, Va. — Camden Jones posted a double-double of 15 kills and 10 digs, Hannah Knights had 27 assists and the Lady Bearcats took a 25-22, 25-17, 25-21 win over the Lady Patriots.

Ashton Adkins came through with 24 assists, Gracey Byrd had nine kills, Avery Johnson added six kills and Zoe Johnson had seven blocks for Sullivan East.

PATRICK HENRY 3, JOHNSON COUNTY 0

GLADE SPRING — Powered by 10 kills and eight blocks by Ella Maiden, the Lady Rebels took a 25-23, 25-18, 25-14 interstate victory over the Lady Longhorns.

Abigail Belcher recorded eight kills, Hannah Holmes had 17 digs, Logan Newberry tallied 24 assists, and Alyssa Evans recorded four aces for Patrick Henry.

SCIENCE HILL 3, ELIZABETHTON 0

ELIZABETHTON — Claire Thomas had nine kills and three digs, middle blocker Loren Grindstaff had eight kills and six blocks and the Lady Hilltoppers rolled 25-15, 25-17, 25-19.

Sara Whynot and Riley Layton contributed seven kills apiece and Jesse Franks and Alyssa Neal each had 17 assists. Neal added a trio of aces and Franks chipped in with six digs.

Defensively, Layton had 10 digs and Whynot had nine and Ella Gay had three blocks.

Morgan Smith finished with six kills, five assists and 10 digs for the Lady Cyclones.

JONESBOROUGH — Eight players recorded goals for the Lady Hilltoppers, who bolted to a 2-0 advantage after eight minutes.

Megan Burleson, Paige Carlsen, Parker Fleenor, Ellie Luna, Savannah Fields, Katie Wilson, Clair Roundtree and Tori Sparks had tallies, and an own goal by the Lady Pioneers accounted for the other.
