BIG STONE GAP — The Union volleyball team already made history by advancing to the VHSL Class 2 semifinals for the first time.

On Tuesday night, the Lady Bears are looking to take another historic step for the program. Union (25-4) hosts Radford (24-2) at 7 p.m. with an eye on reaching Friday’s championship match at the Salem Civic Center.

Radford swept Lebanon in its state quarterfinal match. Both of the Bobcats’ losses this season came against Three Rivers District rival Carroll County.

Senior Emma Minnick, the Three Rivers District player of the year, leads the way for Radford.

Union rallied for a 3-1 win over Giles to reach the state semifinals. The Lady Bears’ losses were to Abingdon, Sullivan South, Sullivan East and Anderson County.

The Lady Bobcats ended the Lady Bears’ season last year, clawing out a 18-25, 25-22, 27-25, 30-28 win in the state quarterfinals. Radford reached the state title match, losing to Wilson Memorial 3-2.

The winner between Union and Radford plays either Poquoson or Madison County at 6 p.m. on Friday in Salem.
