Eastside advances, Rye Cove, Thomas Walker fall in 1D play

CLINCHPORT — Holston used a solid passing game and an aggressive, well-balanced offense to end Rye Cove’s season in the quarterfinal round of the Region 1D volleyball tournament on Thursday.

Holston (15-8), the third seed out of the Hogoheegee District, advanced to Tuesday’s semifinals at Northwood with the 25-16, 25-22, 17-25, 25-19 victory.

Audra Larson had 15 kills and Liyah French tallied 12 kills and 20 digs to lead the Lady Cavaliers, who will face Chilhowie in the semifinals. The Lady Warriors eliminated Honaker 25-15, 25-18, 25-16 in the quarterfinals.

Callie Richardson racked up 13 kills, 10 blocks and four aces and fellow senior Grace Rhoton had 26 digs and three aces for the Cumberland District champion Lady Eagles (19-9).


GRUNDY — Anna Whited piled up 12 kills and Reiley McCoy chipped in 11 to power the Lady Spartans to a straight-set Region 1D quarterfinal win, 25-13, 25-19, 25-23, over the host Lady Golden Wave.

Eastside advanced to Tuesday’s regional semifinal round at Northwood to face Patrick Henry, a three-set winner over Thomas Walker on Thursday.

Kennedi Plymal totaled nine kills for Grundy.


GLADE SPRING — Jamayia Honaker knocked down 13 kills and Gracie Hammond came up with 28 assists to lead the Lady Rebels past the Lady Pioneers in the Region 1D quarterfinal round, winning 25-16, 25-23, 25-18.

Tanna Whitt finished with eight kills and Madison Mayes had 12 digs to lead Thomas Walker.

Patrick Henry advanced to Tuesday’s regional semifinals against Eastside.
