Rye Cove dominates Eastside in Cumberland clash

CLINCHPORT — Thursday night’s collision between Cumberland District volleyball powers turned out to be a bit one-sided.

Bolstered by junior Kaleigh Sloan’s stellar all-around game, Rye Cove swept visiting Eastside, winning 25-20, 25-15, 25-18.

Sloan’s night saw the junior come through with 17 digs, five kills, two blocks and 17 service points, including a pair of aces.

Callie Richardson contributed 18 kills and five blocks and Abby Vicars tallied 19 digs and nine kills for the Lady Eagles (6-5, 1-0). Emily Bishop recorded an impressive 37 assists and Grace Rhoton worked up 26 digs in the win over the Lady Spartans (3-5, 0-1).

Rye Cove stays inside the district for its next match, at home on Tuesday against Scott County rival Twin Springs.


BRISTOL, Tenn. — Despite getting 28 digs from Macy Hurley, the Lady Vikings dropped the Big 6 Conference match in four sets, 22-25, 27-25, 27-25, 25-22.

Alyssa Neal’s double-double of 16 assists and 10 digs set the tone for the Lady Hilltoppers. Jesse Franks and Riley Layton had 17 digs apiece, Meghan Carroll added 16 and Franks also recorded three aces.

Kloey Tester contributed 11 kills and 14 digs, Sahra Lambert had 10 kills, three blocks and five aces, and Aubrey McCray had 22 assists, 11 digs and seven kills for Tennessee High (10-5, 4-3), which plays in the Mountain Empire Tournament this weekend at Science Hill.


KINGSPORT — Emily ONeal, Alexia Harper and Rachel Cole led KACHEA to a 25-13, 25-18, 25-13 win over Greeneville’s Heritage Home Scholars.

ONeal complemented her eight kills with five aces, Harper tallied seven kills and seven blocks, and Cole delivered five kills and five assists to kill.

Kylee Ferrell had three kills and two blocks, Emma Weber added three aces and a kill, and Makenna True had a pair of aces for KACHEA (12-1).



GLADE SPRING — The Rebels scored 29 first-quarter points — including a 78-yard kickoff return by Zach Brown — on their way to the rout.

Brown added two more touchdowns, on runs of 58 and 39 yards, for Patrick Henry (4-0).

Cole Burke score twice for the Titans (0-4), on a 5-yard pass from Corbin Kilgore in the second quarter and on a 4-yard run in the third. Kilgore kept the ball for a 5-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter and accounted for two 2-point conversion runs. Burke also had a 2-point conversion.


LEBANON — The Trojans shut down the host Pioneers in a nondistrict matchup.

John Battle (2-2) opened scoring with a bang when quarterback Walker Osborne raced 53 yards to the end zone in the first quarter.

Dylan Cunningham scored on a 17-yard run to send the Trojans into halftime with a 14-0 lead, and Micah Whitt and Anakin Wyatt each added fourth-quarter scores for the final tally.
