BLOUNTVILLE — If you’re a wrestling fan, make plans to visit Sullivan Central High School on Jan. 18.

That’s when Mid Atlantic Championship Wrestling will host the Sullivan County War, a fundraiser benefitting the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office.

Well-known wrestlers like Billy Gunn, Buff “The Stuff” Bagwell, “Big Poppa Pump” Scott Steiner and many others are scheduled to be in action at the event, and tickets are available now.

“I’d encourage wrestling fans to come out and see the wrestling, but it is a fundraising event,” said promoter Rik Nelson. “We just want to have a big, big crowd and kick this off right.”

About the event

Nelson said this event is the first fundraiser ever held in Tennessee by Mid Atlantic Championship Wrestling. The organization has held similar events in the Carolinas and Georgia, each one serving as a fundraiser for local law enforcement.

Doors will open at 7 on the night of the event; at that time, attendees can participate in a meet-and-greet with the wrestlers and get autographs and photos, Nelson said. The show itself will begin at 8 with several matches and will conclude with the main event, which should wrap up around 10.

Sponsors include Direct Paintless Dent Repair, Friendship Cars, Kia of Kingsport, Toyota of Bristol, Tri-Cities Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, and Wallace Nissan of Kingsport.

“The event coordinator approached me last summer about the idea and the initial partnership and explained the event and how it could benefit the Sheriff's Office for community outreach,” said Sullivan County Sheriff Jeff Cassidy. “The idea of a MACW wrestling event coming to our area and partnering with our local businesses and citizens really caught my attention. The businesses receive tickets to the event and advertising so it allowed for them to benefit as well.”

Tickets

General admission tickets are $12, and ringside tickets are $20. Tickets are available for purchase before the event at Dixie Outpost BBQ, located at 3172 Highway 126 in Blountville, and at Chantz Scott Kia, located at 929 E. Stone Drive in Kingsport. Tickets will also be available at the door on the night of the event.

Proceeds

Cassidy said the event will help fund some of the outreach programs that the SCSO conducts each year.

“A percentage of the proceeds from the event will be utilized for our Toys From Cops, Trunk or Treat, bully camp, and back-to-school events and help us improve and grow in our community outreach,” Cassidy said.

Nelson added that Sullivan Central High School Athletic Boosters will receive funds from concessions and parking during the event.
