KINGSPORT— The 15th Kingsport Idol competition will sing its swan song Saturday at 4 p.m. as eight finalists in four age groups compete for the prize.

Kingsport Idol has been having weekly shows at the Kingsport Fraternal Order of Eagles since early June, with the finale to be held at Ross N. Robinson Middle School. Tickets are $5. Host and coordinator Mark Kilgore said the finalists have emerged from 250 auditions.

“We’ve been getting crowds of 350 to 400 on Thursday nights, so we’re expecting a good turnout on Saturday,” said Kilgore.

There will be winners in each age group and an overall winner for the competition. Several prizes will be awarded to winners and runner-ups in each age group, including cash prizes, studio time at DOTHERT Studios in Johnson City, vocal and music lessons, giveaways from Music Doctors and Bays Mountain Park and more.

The finalists for each age group are:

8-13: Patiance Gardner and Mason Perry

14-17: Azera Rutherford and Amanda Robinette

18-24: Julieona Soto and Christina Druen

25-plus: Laura Gardner and Holly Keller

“One thing that has made this interesting is there were mothers and daughters and fathers and sons competing together, they were in different age groups, but this has been about family,” said Kilgore. “Each age group changed genres of music every night, so they had to be very versatile.”

“We will also have winners from last year return to sing one last song and turn it over to this year’s winners,” said Kilgore.

The overall sponsors for Kingsport Idol are Knoxville TVA Credit Union and Bays Mountain Park. Other sponsors are Kingsport Cross Country Mortgage, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Music Doctors, Elite Hospice, WXBQ and DOTHERT Studios.
