WEBER CITY — A local church will be hosting a 5K run once again, this time to help benefit the Fellowship of Christian Athletes in Scott County’s high schools.

Weber City First Baptist Church will be putting on the second annual Soul 2 Sole 5K on May 21 at 6 p.m. The church, which has locations in both Weber City and Gate City, hosted the first race last year as part of its 3:16 Sports Ministry.

Last year’s race was in honor of Hayley White, a Gate City High School student who died of brain cancer in 2012. The church established four scholarships in Hayley’s name.

This year’s race will benefit the FCA at Gate City, Rye Cove and Twin Springs high schools. Proceeds will go toward an FCA camp. The church hopes no teenager who wants to attend the camp will be turned away due to not being able to pay.

Soul 2 Sole 5K is a certified, chipped-time race from State of Franklin Track Club in Johnson City.

The race will begin at Gate City High School. It will wind through town and end at the Gate City church campus. The race will be followed with awards and master awards. Once the awards are given out, there will be contemporary music led by Preston Harper and a praise band.

Runners interested in participating can sign up at www.runsignup.com or visit Weber City Baptist between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. weekdays. The race can also be followed on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/316Soul2Sole5K/ or on Instagram with the hashtag Soul2sole5k.
