KINGSPORT — Netherland Inn’s “1818 Christmas at the Inn” will feature decorations, snacks and a glimpse at what Christmas looked like two centuries ago.

This year’s “1818 Christmas at the Inn” is scheduled for the weekend of Dec. 9-11.

The Friday and Saturday night events are 6-8 p.m.; and Sunday afternoon 2-4 p.m.

The event features period Christmas decorations, “heavy hors d'oeuvres,” hot apple cider, live music, and during the Friday and Saturday events there will be Civil War re-enactors interacting with visitors discussing the Battle of Kingsport.

Netherland Inn docents will be in period costume as well.

The entire Inn, back barn and schoolhouse cabin will be decorated by the Garden Club of Kingsport in all natural period Christmas decorations.

Tickets are $10 at the door.

William King originally built Netherland Inn between 1802 and 1808 as a point from where he could ship salt west.

He sold the inn in 1818 to Richard Netherland who acquired a stage contract and established the inn and tavern for travelers along the Old Stage Road.

The inn is located at 2144 Netherland Inn Rd., Kingsport.
