Lady Devils’ Arnold, Jenkins fall in doubles semis

Gate City’s Sarah Arnold and Kaley Jenkins dropped a 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 decision to Radford’s Kathleen Reuwer and Harper Minarik on Friday in the VHSL Class 2 girls tennis doubles semifinals at the Virginia Tech Tennis Complex in Blacksburg.

Reuwer and Minarik then fell to Maggie Walker’s Sammy Finnegan and Natalie Kim 6-3, 6-3 in the state championship match.

Arnold and Jenkins will be back on the court Saturday when the Lady Blue Devils take on Maggie Walker for the state team championship.


John Battle’s Adam Terry and Hudson Crabtree advanced to Friday’s Class 2 boys doubles championship match before falling to the George Mason duo of Chris Kim and Miles Heffernan 6-0, 6-1.

Terry and Crabtree moved into the final with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Galax’s Coleman Morgan and Landon Dickson in the semis.


Abingdon’s boys and girls doubles teams both lost in the semifinal round of the VHSL Class 3 tournament at Hunting Hills Country Club in Roanoke.

Dillon McReynolds and Carter Hylton dropped a 6-0, 6-0 decision to Western Albemarle’s Gavin Seagraves and Alex Ix, who went on to claim the state title by defeating RJ Novak and Aryan Prabhudesai of York also by a score of 6-0, 6-0.

Anna Campbell and Annie Miller fell 7-5, 6-0 to the Western Albemarle’s Corrine Jennings and Austin Winslow, who finished as runners-up to Natasha Novak and Cassie Watts of York.


Eastside will take on Maggie Walker at 9 a.m. on Saturday at Virginia Tech for the Class 2 boys team championship.
