BRISTOL, Tenn. — As David Crockett flew out to a 10-2 lead at the beginning of Wednesday night’s Arby’s Classic semifinal contest against Tift County, the roar of the capacity crowd inside Viking Hall made it hard to conjure up a coherent thought.

But as the team out of Tift County, Ga., methodically pushed its lead into double-digits in the third quarter, the crowd fell silent enough to hear the squeaking of the sneakers on the floor.

Tift County wore down a Crockett team coming off two straight double-overtime wins, outscoring the Pioneers 43-24 in the second half to pick up a 72-55 victory. With the win, the Blue Devils advanced to the championship game of the Arby’s Classic. Crockett will play for third place Thursday night.
