GRAY — There was nothing unlucky about the number 13 for the Daniel Boone softball team Monday evening.

Playing at the school located off exit 13, Lady Trailblazers piled up 13 hits to run their winning streak to 13 games with a 10-1 victory over Dobyns-Bennett.

Megan Ackerman led Boone (35-5, 5-1 Big 7 Conference), going 2-for-2 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Nickolette Ferguson added a dominant performance in the circle, striking out nine and giving up four hits and no walks.

“I thought our girls battled hard and Nickolette is throwing as hard as ever the last couple of times out,” Boone coach Jeremy Jenkins said. “Her velocity was good and she had nine strikeouts.

“Top to bottom, we had some really good at-bats. Megan has been good for us. Briley (Mesusan) came out for us a little today in the leadoff and Dannah (Persinger) had a couple of hits including a triple in the nine-hole spot.”

Mesusan finished 2-for-4, Ferguson went 2-for-3 and Persinger was 2-for-2 including an RBI triple in the fourth inning.

Ferguson was proud of her team’s all-around effort.

“The pitching is a big part of it, but if you don’t have the defense behind you, you’re not going to do well,” she said. “They fielded the ball well today and we found a way to hit the ball. Having the bats is such a good thing. I feel like we’ve come together as a team from the beginning of the year.”

Emma Robinette and Camryn Sarvis each tallied two RBIs and Jaycie Jenkins had a bases-loaded walk.

Morgan Riffle struck out five over three inning in taking the loss for the Lady Indians (17-12, 3-5). Kassidy Miller pitched three innings in relief.

Makaila Collier had an RBI single to drive in Evee Batisto for D-B’s run.

The majority of damage was done in the second and fourth innings when Boone scored four runs in each.

“We’ve got to hit the ball better,” D-B coach Andy Hubbard said. “We haven’t hit the ball the last two games. It’s tough when you face good pitching, but we had a couple of bad innings and it didn’t help against a good team.”
