ROGERSVILLE — The Rogersville Heritage Association hopes to have a very busy 2020 by organizing at least one community event each month for the rest of the year, with two main goals in mind.

The first goal is to help give the public fun activities while at the same time taking advantage of downtown Rogersville’s historical ambiance and businesses.

The second goal is to raise money that will ultimately be used to match a grant for two pending RHA projects: the Rogers Tavern restoration and the installation of lighting at Crockett Creek Park.

One of those new events, the Vintage Market scheduled for Saturday, April 18, was approved by the Rogersville Board of Mayor and Aldermen Tuesday evening.

RHA board member Renee Trent described the event for the BMA as a “mini Heritage Days.”

“It’s for local people in town who do crafts and sell things to come into town,” Trent said. “We’ll have all the lunch establishments open and advertise for them a little bit.”

The BMA agreed to block Main Street on April 18 from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. between Hasson Street and Brownlow Street for vendors to set up. The actual event hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. that day.

RHA Director Melissa Nelson told the Times News Wednesday that the Vintage Market will be “a unique, vintage-inspired outdoor market featuring original mixed media art, antiques, clothing, jewelry, home decor, outdoor furnishings, seasonal plantings, and consumable yummies (food).”

The first tentative event would be a wine tasting in February, and more information will be released about that when details are finalized.

March would feature a children’s event at the Hale Springs Inn, followed by the Vintage Market in April, a Mother’s Day Tea in May, a silent auction fundraiser in June, and an all-day music and food festival at Crockett Spring Park in July.

Tentatively scheduled for August is a barbecue event, followed by the RHA Gala in September, Heritage Days in October, the Hale Springs Inn’s Soup and Sandwich Luncheon in November, and a long list of pending events next December including Decorate the Inn, Breakfast with Santa, Christmas Tour of Homes, and New Year’s Eve on Town Square.

The RHA is accepting vendor reservations for the Vintage Market until April 3. For more information, contact Nelson at (423) 272-1961.
