She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Gladys worked at Scott Motel until it closed in 1988 and went on to work at Burger King for over 18 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ezra and Margaret Tankersley; sister, Betty Tankersley; daughter-in-law, Debbie Hurt.
Survivors include her loving husband of 60 years, Carl Hurt; sons, Randall Hurt and Brian Hurt and wife Carmen; daughters, Kristy Hurt and Brenda Smith and husband Tim; grandchildren, Logan Starnes, Ava Ronoh (Kelvin), Kade Smith, Rebecca Barnette, Jeremy Hurt (Christina), Megan Johnston (Andrew); great-grandchildren, Casey Barnette, Andrew Casey, Caleb Casey, Allie Hurt, Nash Johnston, and Logan Johnston; brother, Raymond Tankersley (Sandra); sisters, Jackie Bostic (Jimmy), Joyce Williams, Mary Davis (Nick), Linda Speaks (Milton), and Teresa Tipton (Scott); along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5pm to 7pm on Wednesday, August 21, 2019 at Scott County Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow with Pastor Scott Tipton and Pastor Steve Templeton officiating. Music will be provided by her nieces Amy Bledsoe and Kala Hale.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11am on Thursday, August 22, 2019 at Holston View Cemetery with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home by 10:15am to go in procession.
