Emma Jo Rogers Light

BIG STONE GAP, VA - Emma Jo Rogers Light, 77, passed away Friday, June 28, 2019, at Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, TN.

She was born August 13, 1941 and grew up in Jasper, VA and was of the Baptist faith. She retired from Heritage Hall of Big Stone Gap, VA, where she worked as a dietary aide for many years and had many co-workers whom she loved dearly.  She was a mother to many, but an even better grandmother.  Her grandchildren were her life.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill” Light; a son Jeffery Light; parents, Palmer and Mary Hurd Rogers;  special nephews, Tony Russell and Michael Russell; brothers, John Rogers and Ralph Rogers; sister, Nancy Russell; an infant sister and her beloved dog, Sophie.

Mrs. Light is survived by her daughters, Jackie (Jack) Poteet, Stacy (Josh) Barnette and Susann Light; daughter-in-law, Maryanne Light; grandchildren, Brittany (Vince) Large, Jonathan Poteet, Zachry Barnette, Sarah Barnette, Madison Gibson (Jeremy Parsons), Christy (Jim) Chandler and Brent (Beckie) Gibson; brother, Jim (Freda) Rogers; nieces, Jenny Rogers Smith and Nikki Rogers; nephews, Bill Russell and Adam Rogers and her beloved dog, Susie.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 3, 2019, at Gilliam Funeral Home, 618 Wood Ave. W., Big Stone Gap, VA, from 5:30-7:00pm.  Services will begin at 7:00 with Rev. David Rose officiating.
