He was born in Hawkins County, Tn but had been in the Kingsport area most of his life. He loved working in his garden and loved to watch wrestling.
Pops is preceded in death by his wife, Irene Woods Overbay; great grandson, Christopher Harvey; step-children, Vernon Garrett, Willard Garrett, Doris Steffey; brothers, Bill Overbay, Herman Overbay, Elmer Overbay, James Overbay; sister, Shelby Overbay.
Survivors include his son, David Overbay and wife Cathy (Atlanta, GA), Reuben Garrett and wife Nancy (Kingsport, TN); daughter, Patricia Cody, Donna Gillenwater and husband Norman (both of Kingsport, TN); eleven grandsons; six granddaughters; sixteen great grandsons; sixteen great granddaughters; three great great grandchildren; brother, Eugene Overbay (Church Hill, TN); several nieces and nephews.
The family of Pops Overbay will receive friends on Monday, April 22, 2019 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm at Trinity Memorial Centers with services to follow in our chapel with Rev. Johnny Gibson, Rev. Leonard Dixon, and Rev. Charlie Thacker officiating. Graveside service will be at 12:00pm Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at Old Kingsport Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be John Phillips, Kenny Garrett, Glenn Stewart, Kevin Howington, Norman Gillenwater, Gabriel Riggs.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Wexford House, Amedisys Hospice, Jerry and Angela Harvey for all their love and care and their dedication to make sure Pops was well taken care of.
