MORRISTOWN - Rachel Johnson, age 97 of Morristown, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2019 at her residence.
Rachel was born in Fairview, Virginia, but lived most of her life in Kyles Ford, TN with her late husband: C. Jack Johnson. She was a member of The Kyles Ford Baptist Church for more than 65 years, where she was active as a Sunday School and Bible School teacher and song leader.
She was a dedicated, loyal caregiving mother, grandmother and aunt and an encouraging mentor to many. She was a creative writer, poet, quilter, seamstress, historian, gardener and had a since of love for animals. She was a true domestic engineer with a great sense of humor that everyone enjoyed.
Along with her husband, C. Jack., she was preceded in death by her parents: R.W. and Rose Lee Robinette Jennings; brother: Leonard Jennings; sisters: Cora Carter, Allie Horton, Gladys Horton, Nela Jennings, Elma Pearcy, and Erma Tyler.
Rachel leaves her daughter: Jackie Johnson Sisson (Frank Abbott); granddaughter: Rachel Ann Sisson Reading and husband: Matthew Reading. Close and special friend: Bonnie Curl.
The family wishes to express a heartfelt thank you to her caregivers and the staff of Smoky Mountain Hospice who were so dedicated and caring.
Visitation will be Saturday, Feb. 9, 2019 from 11:00 AM until 12 Noon at Mayes Mortuary. Funeral services will follow at 12:00 PM with Pastor Jimmy Inman presiding. Interment will follow in Hamblen Memory Gardens.
