Virginia Ruth Clark Carroll

HILTONS, VA - Virginia Ruth Clark Carroll, age 94 of Hiltons, VA passed away on Sunday, July 8, 2018 at Wexford House, Kingsport, TN. She would have been 95 on July 9th.

She was born in Hiltons, VA on July 9, 1923; she was the youngest of 10 children and was the daughter of the late Charles Melvin and Laura E. Barker Clark. Other than her parents Virginia was also preceded in death by her husband, James Carroll; son-in-law, John Davis; 5 sisters, Sadie Clark, Maggie Shump, Mannie Epperson, Frances Smeltzer and Theda Carter; 4 brothers, Emmett, Garnet, Gordon, and Mosco Clark. She attended Hilton Memorial United Methodist Church and was a member of Holston View Methodist and was also a member of the Red Hat Club and Senior Citizens. She had been employed by Eastman Chemical Co for 43 years and 8 months years.

She is survived by a daughter Shirley C. Davis; grandchildren, Sharon Purifoy and husband John and Raymond Stockard Jr. and wife Shannon; 4 great grandchildren, Megan and Spencer Stockard, Adam Nottingham and wife Ashley and William Purifoy; several nieces nephews and great nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, July 11, 2018 from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM at Colonial Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 1:00 PM with Rev. Will Shewey officiating, followed by a graveside service at Holston View Cemetery. Music will be provided by Dale Jett and friends. Pallbearers are Spencer Stockard, John Purifoy, William Purifoy, Adam Nottingham and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be Johnny Wolfe, Bill Shaffer and Bayard Goode.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hilton United Methodist Church 2869 Hilton Rd. Gate City, VA 24251.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to employees and staff of Wexford House, Amedisys Hospice and special thanks to Barbara Mann.
