JONESVILLE, VA - Mattie Newman, 101, of Jonesville, VA, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, August 11, 2017, at Lee Health and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born in Russell County, VA on August 1, 1916 to the late William and Martha (Hoover) Ramey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Burley Newman, son, Jimmy Newman and a granddaughter, Teresa Watson.
Mattie was a charter member of Victory Freewill Baptist Church in Jonesville, and was the oldest living member at the time of her passing. She was a loving woman who was deeply devoted to God, her family and her friends.
She is survived by a son, William “Bill” Newman, a daughter, Phyllis Cowden, and a daughter-in-law, Glenda Newman, all of Jonesville; five grandchildren, Pamela Boggs, Kimberly Barnaby, Lynsie McDaniel, Greg Newman and Michael Newman; eight great-grandchildren, Savanna, Raesta, Kayla, Tristan, Peyton, William, Graham and Raelyn; several nieces and nephews, her beloved church family and many friends.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 7:00 p.m. Monday, August 14, at Robinette Funeral Home in Jonesville. The funeral service will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Pastor Danny Crawford and Rev. Bill Moore officiating. The graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 15, in Lee Memorial Gardens, Woodway, VA. Everyone is asked to meet at the cemetery for services.
