Abingdon Police arrest Kingsport man for allegedly distributing crack cocaine

A Kingsport man is among four people recently arrested by Abingdon Police for allegedly distributing illegal narcotics.

Authorities say that on Tuesday they arranged the controlled delivery of approximately one ounce of crack cocaine. As a result of this sting, two people were arrested.

Len Edward Howard, 43, of 808 Burwind Court, Kingsport, was charged with three felonies; possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance, conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance and transporting more than one ounce of a schedule I or II drug into Virginia. Howard is held without bond in Abingdon's Southwest Regional Jail.

Arrested in the same sting was Crystal Gail Shaffer, 30, of 6264 AP Carter Highway, Hiltons, Va. Shaffer faces identical charges as Howard, and is held under a $10,000 secure bond at the Southwest Regional Jail.

Assisting Abingdon Police in Tuesday's operation was the Washington and Russell County Sheriff's Offices and Virginia State Police.

On Thursday Abingdon Police and the Washington County Sheriff's Office made two more arrests, this time in connection to the delivery of a half pound of marijuana.

Danielle Renee Lewis, 34 YOA, of 16323 Amanda Lane, Unit No. 6, Abingdon, was charged with two felonies; possession with intent to distribute marijuana and conspiracy to distribute marijuana. Lewis is held under a $ 3,000 bond at the Southwest Regional Jail.

Also arrested was Randy Bill Thomas, 29, of 221 South Hills Drive, Apartment C, Elizabethton, Tenn. He faces the same charges as Lewis, is held under a $5,000 bond.
