Wise County Emergency Coordinator Jessica Swiney said River Road in Big Stone Gap was closed Friday but was expected to reopen that afternoon.
A Wise County Public Service Authority water line broke late Thursday leaving about 30 homes in the Turkey Branch, Hickory Gap and Strawberry Mountain communities without water, Swiney said.
The line was repaired Friday, but Swiney said the PSA has issued a 48-hour boil notice before customers’ tap water should be safe.
Wise County Sheriff Grant Kilgore said deputies helped the Coeburn Fire Department Thursday with a water rescue in the Tacoma community.
Kilgore and Swiney said there were no reports of anyone injured from flood-related conditions. Swiney said county emergency personnel will be watching the area Monday due to rain forecasts and saturated ground.
Waters were receding in the East Park Avenue, Ramsey and Dorchester sections of Norton Friday.
Lee County Sheriff Gary Parsons said no county residents were displaced by flooding. A car did go into floodwater on 421, he said, but the driver was rescued with no injuries.
