Races to benefit Sullivan County SWAT

Staff report • Aug 30, 2019 at 12:47 PM

BLOUNTVILLE — The Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office is encouraging public participation in their Scorpion 5K Run & 2 Mile Walk. The event is Sunday, Sept. 8, but discounted pre-registration ends this coming Sunday.

According to an SCSO press release, proceeds from the event will purchase much-needed equipment and safety gear for the SCSO Special Weapons and Tactics team.

“As with any type of equipment or tools needed for a professional job, the SWAT team’s equipment is aging,” said Sheriff Jeff Cassidy. “Much of the equipment in the past was purchased by team members using their own money. We hope to use the funds from this event to purchase protective gear and safety items for the team so that they can better serve the citizens of Sullivan County.”

Both the 5K run and 2-mile walk will begin on Sept 8 at 6:00 p.m. at the sheriff’s office, 140 Blountville Bypass. Participants in the 5K will compete for the top female and male awards in each age category as well as the top overall female and male finisher. Medals for the 2-mile walk will be given to the top overall finisher in each age group.

Early registration is $25 and ends this coming Sunday. Race day registration is $30.
