Bays Mountain Park to be closed for paving

KINGSPORT — Bays Mountain Park will be closed for three days next week, from Monday through Wednesday, as crews work to repave the road leading up to the park.

Since Thursday, Pave-Well Paving Company has been milling Bays Mountain Road and installing the leveling course in preparation for next week’s paving work. Beginning Monday, crews will start the repaving project.

The work comes at the tail end of two major projects that took place at Bays Mountain Park this spring and summer: the addition of 75 parking spaces across the street from the nature center and the installation of more than 6,000 linear feet of new sewer line along the side of the road, tying the park into the city’s sewer system.

— Monday through Wednesday: Paving of the entry road will be underway daily from roughly 6:30 a.m. until sundown. The park will be closed to the public during this time due to the nature of the work being performed. Although the park will be closed to the public, park staff will be present, including at the gatehouse.

— Thursday and Friday: The park will reopen to the public on a normal operating schedule as crews complete paving. If paving is completed on time and without weather delays, restriping of the entry road may take place during this time and possibly into the following week.
