Hawkins County Rescue Squad seeking volunteers

LT. COREY YOUNG, Community Contributor • Jul 15, 2019 at 3:41 PM

Are you looking for a way to give back to your community? Are you looking for a place to start a career in public safety? If you answered yes to either question, Hawkins County Rescue Squad is your answer! We are currently accepting applications for both regular members and junior members.

The HCRS is made up of 100 percent volunteer membership and since 1958 has served the western portion of the county, which includes Rogersville, Surgoinsville, Eidson, Mooresburg, and Bulls Gap. Our agency is currently staffed by 68 regular members and 13 junior members who answer 350-400 calls for service annually.

We are currently looking to add approximately 10 regular members and two junior members to our agency. Ideally, we are looking to increase our membership from individuals residing in the remote areas of our coverage area but welcome anyone who is interested in joining.

Regular membership is open to both males and females age 19 and above. Junior membership is open to both males and females ages 14-18. All training, uniforms, and equipment are provided for all members after joining our agency.

Both classifications of membership require the applicant to attend three meetings before being voted on by the board of directors followed by a probationary period. The applicant will be then voted on by the full membership after successfully completing the probationary period.

Applications for regular membership and junior members can be obtained at our meetings, which are held at our East McKinney Avenue Station in Rogersville on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month at 7 p.m. Applications for junior members are also available on our website.
