Suspects identified in shooting at MeadowView

KINGSPORT  — Kingsport police have identified three suspects in connection with the shooting incident that took place at the MeadowView Conference Resort and Convention Center on Saturday night.

Authorities said the shooting was a drug-related crime and initiated by a robbery attempt that took place inside the hotel portion of the facility and that it was not a random act of violence. The victim has been treated and released from a local hospital.

According to a press release from the Kingsport Police Department, three suspects have been charged in the incident:

- Matthew Phillips: aggravated robbery, aggravated kidnapping and attempted second-degree murder.

- Deonte Bristol: aggravated robbery, aggravated kidnapping, attempted aggravated robbery and accessory after the fact to attempted second-degree murder.

- Brittany Staffford: accessory after the fact to attempted second-degree murder.

Bristol and Stafford were both arrested and are in the Kingsport Jail pending arraignment. Phillips remains at large and should be considered armed and dangerous.
