Crews began demolishing the former St. Mary's Hospital in Norton a week ago.

The structure is the last of three hospitals once located in the downtown Norton area. Norton Community Hospital moved to its current location in the west end of Norton in the 1970's, and its original structure overlooking the center of the city burned down around 1980.

The former Park Avenue Hospital on Park Avenue was demolished in the 1980s and the site is now a parking lot.

St. Mary's was replaced by a hospital - now Mountain View Regional Hospital - in Norton's east end in the 1980s, and the original building housed a mental health facility in the 1990s before it closed permanently.
