Identity of man killed in Colonial Heights fire released

According to an email from Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Kristen Quon, the man involved in Saturday’s fatality has been identified as 65-year-old Ronald Wimmer.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

KINGSPORT — A 65-year-old man is dead as the result of a Saturday afternoon house fire in Colonial Heights.

According to Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Kristen Quon, officers responded to 205 Warrior Drive in reference to a structure fire shortly before 3 p.m.

The Warriors Path Volunteer Fire Department, Sullivan County Volunteer Fire Department and Bloomingdale Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene.

A 27-year-old male and a 65-year-old male were inside the residence at the time of the fire.

The older man and his dog were unable to escape in time. The 27-year-old sustained minor injuries.

The Sullivan County Criminal Investigations Division is looking into the cause of the fire.
