WISE — A Pound man will serve eight years in prison after pleading guilty to shooting his girlfriend during a 2018 domestic dispute.

Brian Patrick Williams, 37, was sentenced in Wise County Circuit Court after pleading guilty in July to charges of malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and felony abduction stemming from the shooting in Pound.

Williams and his girlfriend were arguing at his residence on July 4, 2018 when, according to Wise County Sheriff’s Department reports, he tried to stop her from leaving. Security footage from the residence showed Williams chasing the victim with a firearm, pulling her to the ground, aiming the weapon at her and firing.

After wounding her in the upper body, according to the reports, Williams held her at gunpoint and pointed the firearm at her again.

Wise County Commonwealth’s Attorney Chuck Slemp III said that, during Thursday’s sentencing hearing, assistant prosecutor Josh Newberry presented evidence that the July 4 incident was one of several times Williams had pulled a weapon on the woman during arguments.

“Additional evidence was presented that, following his arrest, Williams made the comment about the shooting that ‘if I had to do it over, I’d do it the right way,’ ” Slemp said.

Williams was sentenced to 18 years prison time with 10 years suspended.
