Husband faces murder charge in Kingsport stabbing

From staff reports • Nov 3, 2019 at 7:41 PM

KINGSPORT — A city man has been charged with second-degree murder after police discovered the body of his wife in the couple’s mobile home Sunday morning.

According to Kingsport Police Department Public Information Officer Tom Patton, at approximately 11 a.m., patrol officers were dispatched to 390 Barnett Drive, Lot 50 at the request of the landlord to check the welfare of the resident, Jennifer D. Carr, 39, due to concerns about alleged marital issues between her and Tobias W. Carr, 35.

Patton said that officers spoke with family members gathered outside the mobile home who shared information to give cause for further concern for Jennifer Carr’s well-being. Police then spoke with Tobias Carr and ordered him outside the residence while they conducted a protective sweep of the mobile home. Officers located Jennifer Carr inside the residence, dead from what appeared to be multiple stab wounds, Patton said.

Detectives from the KPD Criminal Investigations Division responded to the scene and developed sufficient probable cause to determine that Jennifer Carr had died at the hands of her husband, Patton said. Officers then obtained a warrant charging Tobias Carr with second-degree murder and tampering with evidence.

He was incarcerated in the Kingsport City Jail, where he remained confined Sunday night, pending arraignment, with no current eligibility for bond.

Patton noted that since the case is still being investigated and in the interest of future prosecution, no additional details will be released at this time.
