The Virginia State Police report that it occurred shortly before 9 a.m. on Route 72. Less than a mile south of Route 660, a 2002 Ford Focus crossed the center line and struck an oncoming 2016 Toyota Tundra.
The driver of the car, Michael C. McReynolds, of Coeburn, Va., died at the scene. A press release from the VSP states, "fatigue is being investigated as a factor in the crash."
After the initial collision, the Toyota went off the road and struck an embankment. The driver of the truck, Steve D. Brickey, 64, of Dungannon, Va., was not injured.
