Update: KPD investigating shooting incident

KINGSPORT — A Thursday evening shooting incident in the Bloomingdale part of Kingsport that has left a man in critical condition remains under active investigation by the Kingsport Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division, according to a Friday morning updated news release from Public Information Officer Tom Patton said.

Based upon the detectives’ findings thus far, Patton said police believe the shooting occurred during some sort of transaction, either inside or directly adjacent to the injured individual’s vehicle, in the parking lot of Beasonwell Apartments, 901 New Beasonwell Road.

The person who was shot is a 23-year-old white male adult. As of mid-Friday morning, he remained hospitalized at an area hospital in critical condition.

“This appears to have been an isolated incident with no immediate danger to the public at large. While the shooting appears to be have involved known acquaintances, the exact identity of the shooter continues to be the primary focus of the investigation,” the release said. “No further information is available for release at this time. Additional details will be shared if and when they become available, but only at the appropriate point in the investigation.”

KINGSPORT — The Kingsport Police Department is investigating an apparent shooting, according to a press release.

At about 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Kingsport patrol officers were on the scene of an unrelated matter near the intersection of East Stone Drive and New Beason Well Road when they were approached by an injured individual who appeared to have sustained at least one gunshot wound.

The victim was transported to an area hospital for emergency medical treatment.

The shooting incident itself remains under active investigation. Detectives are still trying to piece together what actually happened. Many factors, including exactly when and where the shooting occurred, remain uncertain, police said.

As such, the KPD said no further information was available late Thursday.
