Kingsport Police Department

Sept. 19

— During an altercation at Rotary Park on Boone Street, a man cursed and threatened a woman. When a male acquaintance of the pair stepped in to stop him from "disrespecting" the female, he was stabbed by the other man. That attacker was not located by police, but the victim was hospitalized for treatment of his wound.

— A woman told police that her father had sent a Facebook message, claiming he was being robbed at gunpoint. When officers arrived at his apartment on Chadwick Drive, people inside refused to exit and officers used a PA system to establish contact. Eventually six people came out — one of which was arrested on an outstanding warrant — and a handgun was later found in the water tank of a commode. However, no evidence of a robbery was discovered.

Sept. 21

— A man rear-ended a vehicle on Stone Drive, then fled the scene to his home on Bloomingdale Pike. The victim and a witness followed the suspect and called police, with responding officers finding he had an odor of alcohol, slurred speech and was unable to stand. Though he claimed to have been home for 90 minutes — and that he had no idea why police were at his residence — he was arrested on several charges.

Sept. 22

— At about 1:30 a.m. on Warpath Drive, a resident spotted an unknown, completely nude man in their yard "howling at the moon." He was also "eating clumps of grass" and had defecated in the driveway. Officers responded to find the suspect in a neighbor's car, where a brief struggle ensued to remove him. Once a K-9 was brought to the vehicle, the man complied with commands and was taken into custody. Believed to be "heavily intoxicated from an unknown narcotic," he was jailed on multiple charges, including public intoxication, indecent exposure and attempted auto burglary. His clothing was located on the complainant's lawn.

Sept. 23

—On Clinchfield Street, a bicyclist claimed a passing motorist intentionally swerved to strike him. The bike was rolled over and he was thrown to the ground, according to his account, but a responding officer observed no injuries.

— On East Center Street, police found a homeless man bleeding from the back of his head and suffering a swollen eye. He was taken to the hospital by ambulance, but refused to state what happened or pursue any criminal charges. Multiple witnesses also declined to provide statements, thus the case was closed.
