According to a press release from the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office, the incident occurred Saturday night at about 9:30. Dispatch received a call from Mulligans Gaming, 5334 Fort Henry Drive, reporting that a man had entered the business saying he had been shot.
EMS responded to find Rusty Cordle, 29, with a gunshot wound. He was transported to the hospital and later died.
Detectives working the case interviewed the shooter. He said that he had been driving on Fort Henry Drive in front of Cordle's vehicle. When he pulled into the parking lot, Cordle — who he reportedly did not know — allegedly followed him and "approached his vehicle in a threatening manner."
Police say the other man was in fear for his safety, leading him to fire on Cordle. Police are continuing to probe the case to determine the sequence of events and what may have spurred the incident. As of Monday morning no charges had been filed.
"The Sullivan County District Attorney General’s Office was contacted regarding the incident and the circumstances surrounding it," states an SCSO press release. "Detectives are still investigating the incident and the case will be presented to a Sullivan County Grand Jury upon completion of the investigation."
